Things went as planned this afternoon, which is anything but expected when the name ‘Brandon Rios’ is thrown in the mix, at today weigh-ins for tomorrow night's big HBO Boxing After Dark doubleheader as all four fighters made weight.
In the main event, Nonito Donaire and Toshiaki Nishioka made the 122-pound limit, with Donaire at 121.6lbs and Nishioka at 121.8lbs. Donaire’s WBO and IBF titles will be on the line as well as the vacant WBC "Diamond" title will be up for grabs.
The weigh in that had everybody holding their collective breath was that of Brandon Rios, who had missed weight in his two previous bouts. The move up to 140lbs seems to have paid dividends as the Oxnard fighter made was right on the weight limit with his opponent Mike Alvarado at 139.8lbs. Alvarado looked cut and confident. Rios has never had that rock hard body, think Juan Diaz at 135lbs, but he didn’t look so Skeletor like as he did in his two previous tilts.
Again, catch the fight live on HBO Saturday night at 8pm ET and follow @the4door on Twitter for Round by Round coverage.
